Prosecutors say Hale picked Hyder up at a liquor store and took her to his residence, killing her after sex. They say he told investigators that he was fulfilling an obsession. He also admitted to eating a part of the victim.

07/17/2014 Eric Garner died in Staten Island, New York, after a police officer put him in a chokehold. The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that Garner died partly as a result of the chokehold. New York City Police Department (NYPD) policy prohibits the use of chokeholds,[12] and law enforcement personnel contend that it was a headlock and that no choking took place.[13]After Garner expressed to the police that he was tired of being harassed and that he was not selling cigarettes, officers moved to arrest Garner on suspicion of selling “loosies” (single cigarettes) from packs without tax stamps.


11/22/2014 A Cleveland Police officer shot Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old African-American boy, on November 22 in a park. He died the next day.  Rice was carrying a toy airsoft gun when officer Timothy Loehmann shot him within two seconds of arriving on the scene. Loehmann joined the Cleveland force in March, having resigned from his previous job after a report found him unfit for duty.


02/24/2014 Rumain Brisbon, an unarmed black father of four, was shot to death in Arizona Tuesday when a police officer apparently mistook his bottle of pills for a gun. About 100 protestors marched to police headquarters in Phoenix Thursday, demanding the department release the name of the officer who shot Brisbon. A spokesperson reportedly defended the shooting, saying, “This one went bad from the standpoint of how it ended, but the officer was doing exactly what we want him to do.”


08/05/2014  John Crawford, Beavercreek, Ohio / August 5: Two police officers responded to a 911 call about a man waving a gun at customers inside a Walmart store. According the Beavercreek police department, 22-year-old John Crawford disregarded officers’ orders to disarm before being fatally shot in the chest. Crawford’s gun turned out to be a .177 calibre BB rifle that he’d picked up from a store shelf.


08/11/2014  Ezell Ford, Los Angeles, California / August 11: When police conducted an “investigative stop” of 25-year-old Ezell Ford on a Los Angeles sidewalk, he “wheeled around and basically tackled the lead officer,” then went after his weapon, an LAPD spokesperson told the LA Times. But in an interview with KTLA News, a woman who identified herself as Ford’s mother said he was lying on the ground, complying with the officers’ orders, when he was shot in the back.


08/12/2014  Dante Parker, Victorville, California / August 12: A Victorville resident told police that a robbery suspect had fled on a bicycle. The police detained Dante Parker, a 36-year-old pressman at the Daily Press newspaper, apparently because they found him nearby on a bike. Though Parker had no criminal record (other than a DUI), a scuffle ensued and Parker was tased repeatedly when he resisted arrest, according to witnesses. He began breathing heavily and was taken to a hospital, where he died.


12/30/2014 Police in New Jersey have released a video showing two police officers shooting a black man dead after he tried to get out of his car with his hands up. The incident happened on December 30, but the recording has only just been made available.
